"Developing" (1994)

"Developing" is a student short film, directed by Marya Cohn. It centers on a single mother dealing with breast cancer. As well as dealing with the disease, she also has to bring herself to level with her daughter (Natalie Portman), who is just barely scratching the surface of puberty. What can she possibly understand about the emotional and psychological trauma her mother must endure?

"Developing" has never been released in theaters nor officially on Video or DVD. It has only been aired on the Sundance channel. Natalie Portman was asked to make a little "student film" by a family friend whose daughter was a film student. She shot it before the "Léon (The Professional)" release with a crew mostly comprised of students.
